The Tic Tac Toe Tote is the next beginner project in our sewing journey.

This medium tote is only 9″ wide, 5″ deep, and 12″ tall.
Tote bag highlights include:
- Boxed corners
- Uses a half yard each of two fabrics: exterior and lining
- Two interior patch pockets- one on each side
- Key fob
- Wrapped straps
- Optional canvas bottom for a little more durability or to just add some charm
This tote is easy to scale up into a larger tote bag or down into a long-lasting and reusable gift bag. It holds books for a quick trip to the library or for carrying home supplies from a small hobby shopping dash.
This bag makes an excellent project bag- to do and to have!
While this is a beginner class, the videos will be coming soon so check back for links!
There are no pre-class requirements for this bag other than purchasing your supplies. If you wish to wash your exterior and lining fabrics, that is perfectly fine.
Supply list for class-
- 1/2 yard each for the exterior and lining,
- 1 & 1/4 yard of woven interfacing,
- 6″ x WOF of drapery, canvas, denim, or duck cloth- something with a little heavier weight. You only need 29″ wide so if you a scrap big enough you can use that,
- 1 & 1/3 yard of 1″ webbing, the strap will be wrapped so the color doesn’t matter,
- Lobster clasp- 1/2″
While the fabrics are personal choices. If you prefer your first tote to be no fuss, I will have kits available for purchase. Each kit has the canvas (a beige/neutral color), webbing, interfacing, and the lobster clasp at class that morning. The cost per kit is $25.

This is my go-to woven interfacing when I can find it. Being Pellon, it is expensive. It comes 20″ wide.
Pellon Stay Flex woven interfacing- 2 yard pack-
Plantional Woven interfacing- 16” x 10 yds-
I picked this up recently, and it works quite well. This particular one is 16″ x 10 yards. It looks just like the Pellon
Lobster clasps-
Silver and gold, two sizes are in this package, you will use the larger one- 1/” wide.
Canvas, Drapery Fabric, or Duck Cloth
This particular listing has a lot of colors available. Great if you don’t want to use the natural/beige color. This gives you the chance to match your exterior fabric. You only need a 6″ x 29″ piece.
Nylon Webbing- 1″
There are so many colors to choose from. We are wrapping your webbing for this tote, so the color may not matter. However, wrapping the strap is optional if you want the webbing to show.
