This FREE pattern is a great beginner’s quilt that uses 10″ precuts or yardage. This size is a perfect weekend project that gives a quick win.
Yardage should be used for the sashing and borders. I have the complete process below to start AND completely finish this quilt. Check out the videos below.
If you see the *** in the quilt pattern, go to that section in the videos below to read the variations available.
This quilt is highly versatile and can be done in many ways. Below, you will find the fabric requirements for a baby (2×2), lap (3×3), full (3×4), queen (4×4 OR 4×5), and king (5×5). Keep scrolling to read the tips and tricks, or jump directly to HERE.
When you make this quilt, please go to my Facebook or Instagram page (or both!) and post a photo of the quilt with the hashtag- #hmjBB.

Videos
Depending on when you visit this site, not all the videos may be live yet. I was working on a few different quilts, so the fabrics might change from video to video, but they are all the same quilt pattern.
Pt 1- Cutting the fabric
This video covers cutting out with both yardage and precuts. It is time-stamped, expand the description where you need to jump to if I start on the wrong selection for you.
Pt 2- Sewing the blocks- A & B
This video covers the two different blocks in the quilt- A and B. It is the same block, just upside down. Most of the time, it won’t matter how your fabric lies- unless you have a directional fabric.
Pt 3- Sewing the top together
Here are a few tips and tricks to prevent wobbles and ripples in your quilt as you piece the top together. This is a small quilt; the borders are included.
Pt 4- Glue basting
I will be quilting this on my domestic machine, so it needs to be basted. I prefer the glue basting method rather than the full pin method. You can buy a can of spray glue, but it is expensive and might not ship to your area. This video covers how to make your own glue baste and how to apply it. And, yes, I do have a few pins in the quilt- just not everywhere I need to stitch!
Pt 5- Quilting with your domestic
This video is long. I cover my quilting method, jumping from block to block, and small finishes that can turn “I can believe you made this…” to “I can’t believe you MADE this!!!” There is jump to put the label on as I wanted to incorporate it in the block quilting. How to make your label is in the next video.
Pt 6- Making the label
Normally, labels are an afterthought, something you put on once the quilt is finished. I thought it would be neat to incorporate it into the quilting. To see how I designed this label, watch this video HERE.
Pt 7- Binding
How to cut, make, and stitch your binding. While I chose to do a flange binding, you can review the other binding videos HERE to see if you would like to use another binding method instead. Other than creating the binding, all the other steps are the same.
Thank you for joining me on this journey into beginning quilting. I hope that you have learned a lot from this series. I am a small business, so please click HERE to see other patterns that I created to sell, or click HERE to go to my label store on Etsy.
