hmjoriginals is your source for quilt labels and elegantly simple quilt patterns .

My quilt labels are cute, fun, and I have something that will pair well with your quilt- or I can make one just for you.

I sell my labels on Etsy- https://hmjoriginals.etsy.com

My quilt patterns are created for beginners and intermediate sewers who want an easy, fun quilt.

I specialize in designing stunning quilts using pre-printed panels or large print fabrics. When I can, I work with fabric manufacturers to create patterns that enhance the art panels created by their designers. I love to use gradient or ombre fabrics for my sashing and borders that bring life and movement to the quilt.

I also create quilts for beginners to intermediate quilters to make stash busting quilts for a weekend sew or at a retreat.

And for those who wish a little quilting challenge, I create a few patterns just for you, too. These patterns take more time to do but don’t require exact sewing to be spectacular.

Other interests that I have is renovating my 75 year old house. I bought this house in 2004 and lived in it for 10 years. I moved to Alaska in 2015 and the house was a rental for the next 9 years. When I moved back to Arkansas and the renters moved out I found out that the bedroom floor next to the bathroom was ‘bouncy’ by at least an inch and that the kitchen sink was ‘drippy’. It turns out there had been a water leak in the bathroom at the toilet and the old iron pipe for the tub had rusted clear through and dropped down to the ground in the crawlspace. All this had left the joists with severe rot and the bouncy floor was just a warning sign. To top if off, when removing the kitchen sink to do work on the kitchen the stop valve didn’t remain stopped and I had a lot of water shooting up to the ceiling overnight and when I waded in the next day it covered my sneakers.

Yikes.

After remediation removed 24″ of sheetrock from 4 rooms and dried everything out I knew I had to fix everything before I could rent it out again.

Updating the electrical, replacing the plumbing, new floors in the areas affected, removing the rest of the kitchen sheetrock, replacing the sheetrock and painting. Replacing the wet insulation and the ceiling in the kitchen… the list was getting longer. Eventually I realized that I should take the chance to make this the house I always wanted and live in it.

Sometimes I think that was a stupid idea, but I’m a year into it and can’t back out now. I decided to document it and have a YouTube channel and FaceBook page. I’ll be honest, I don’t edit videos that much right now so the FB page is more current.
