Label Sayings

Beyond the Who, What, When, and Why

If you are stuck on what to say on your label after the name and date, read below for ideas to put on your label. I even have some poems at the end.

Remember that the more text that you have on your label it will need to be a large label or very small font. I would not go below a 12 font for most fonts. Some fonts are really small, so certainly do a test print with regular ink and paper to make sure the label can be read easily.

Poems

New baby poem-

It’s Your Quilt by Nancy Riddell

It’s OK if you sit on your quilt, It’s OK if your bottle gets spilt.

If you swallow some air and you burp, don’t despair; it’s OK if you spit on your quilt.

There are scraps old and new in your quilt, Put together for you on your quilt.

If your gums feel numb ‘cause your teeth haven’t come, it’s OK if you chew on your quilt.

We expect you to lie on your quilt, if you hurt, you may cry on your quilt.

On a cold rainy night, don’t you fret, you’re all right, you’ll be snug, warm and dry on your quilt.

New baby poem

Ten little fingers, ten little toes

The sweetest of smiles

And a cute little nose

All these things add up

To a wonderful gift

Life can bring

A toddler poem

Just For You

This quilt is made of cloth and thread, to place upon your little bed.

It’s not an heirloom just to keep, but to lie upon as you count sheep.

Or perhaps the floor’s the perfect place, for a doll and teddy bear picnic place.

This quilt can be anything you dream, from Superman’s cape to the robe of a queen.

Pretend it’s a raft adrift at sea, or just cuddle up when you watch TV

So, use it up and wear it out, I promise I won’t yell or pout.

Just tell me when its days are through, And I’ll make another one just for you.

Older recipient poem

Some stitches are crooked, some edges aren’t square,

But to the quilts credit it has been made with such care.

Wash it and use it, don’t place in a drawer,

Because quilts that are used become something much more.

They are warmth and comfort whenever you’re cold,

There is love quite embedded from corner to folds.

So please put it to use and wear it right out,

Because living with purpose is what life is about.
